Barbara Ann Jarrett

Barbara Ann Jarrett, age 88, was born, and lived most of her life in Portland, Oregon. In 2010, she moved to Bellingham, WA to be closer to her daughter.

Barbara was a life-long Christian, attending Four Square Church in Beaverton, Oregon. She loved to read, was a Democrat, a feminist, a magnet for small children, and proud of her revolutionary war and Norwegian heritage. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Barbara was a strikingly beautiful woman, even as she approached age 90. She loved to dress well, and as someone once said of her, “Barbara is as kind as she is beautiful.” She worked for over 35 years as the private secretary for the United Steelworkers AFL-CIO west coast negotiator until her retirement in 1987.

Barbara is survived by her son, Paul S. Jarrett (Patricia), daughter, Kathryn Jarrett Lyons (Paul “Chris”) and niece, Beverly “Andie” DeLuca (Michael). She is survived by four grandsons: Donald “Ben” Jarrett, Jarrett A. Merl (Beatriz), Nathan Zilka, Paul Todd Lyons (Lisa) and Kevin Boyd Lyons (Stephanie.) Great-grandchildren include: Raven Garry, Curran Zilka, and Chloe, Ellie, Drake, Kirin and Silas Lyons, She was predeceased by her parents, Homer Avery Smith, (whose Dutch family arrived eight years after the Mayflower), and Ruby Sevrina Jacobson Smith, (whose Aaker grandparents immigrated from Norway in 1855), husband, Donald P. Jarrett, sisters, Beverly J. Smith and Carolyn J. Bremner and nephew, James R. Bremner.

At her request, there will be no formal services.

Memories

From Dani

Dear Jarrett family, Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dear loved one. It seems no greater sadness is felt than when someone so dear to us is loss. May you find comfort in your memories and draw strength from a promise God has provided which gives the hope of someday being reunited with your beloved ( John 5 : 28,29 ). This promised future is one that will be filled with great joy because it will include perfect health and everlasting life on a paradise earth where " the former things have passed away " ( Rev. 21 : 4, Psalms 37 : 29 ). May you find comfort in knowing that God does care and He does hear our cries. Please accept my most sincere condolences
