Service Information

A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on October 9, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence.

Lorraine Thompson Reed, longtime teacher in the Mt. Baker School District, went to be with her Lord on September 27, 2011 at the age of 93. The daughter of Hjalmer and Mabel Monsen of Deming, she lived her entire life in Whatcom county. She was preceded in death by her husbands Thorval Thompson and Bob Reed. She is survived by daughters, Diane Newman and husband Fr Gregory of Nooksack, and Wendy VanderMay and husband Richard of Bellingham. She was "Grandma" to Rebecca, Dave, Stacy, Jeff and Kelli and “Nana” to Jacob, Hannah, Graciana, Isaac, Olivia, Alicia, Brayden, Erica, Elijah, Noah and Zoe.


She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lawrence. After retirement, she and her husband, Bob, loved to travel around the US and Mexico. They kept a beautiful yard and garden on the Lawrence Road. Lorraine was known for always having a smile on her face.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Whatcom County.

My condolences to Lorraine's family. I remember her for her deep faithfulness, her kind hospitality, her ready laugh and the good times that she and Bob had together traveling and enjoying friends and family.

Diane and Wendy, I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful mother. I still remember all of the times she would feed us, make us laugh and simply smile and light up our world. She was an amazing woman.

That was nice of you...she would have been 94 tomorrow. She has been going for some time..living close by with Wendy to the end.
