Judy Lois Doris

Service Information

A privately-held celebration of life will be held on November 24, 2018 in Bellingham, WA.  A second will be held on December 1, 2018 in Plainfield, NJ.

Judy Lois Doris was born on October 6, 1936 in Newark, New Jersey to parents Esther Epstein and Joseph Boxer. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and received a Master of Arts in Counseling, Human Services and Guidance from Montclair State University. She was a bilingual guidance counselor and social worker at Dover High School in New Jersey.

She had a contagious energy that she channeled into her favorite activities, which included playing bridge, piano, tennis, and golf, as well as swimming, dancing, and cooking. An avid reader and skilled linguist, she always had a book at her side and a foreign language at the tip of her tongue. Judy had an infectious laugh, warm smile, sparkling eyes, and affection for and curiosity about people. She made friends easily and was the source of much joy in the lives she touched.

Judy cherished her mother Esther, an accomplished pianist. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bob Doris; her children Deanna Fryhle, Greg Doris, Carolyn Hallett and Jonathan Doris; her sons-in-law Craig Fryhle and Peter Hallett; her daughter-in-law Dolly Klock Doris; her six grandchildren Lauren and Heather Fryhle, Dylan and Gabriel Hallett, and Charlie and Libby Doris; her brother Larry Boxer and sister-in-law Susan Davis.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

She is deeply missed and will always be in our hearts.

You will live in my heart forever,Judy. We will all miss your intelligence and especially your music. A passion we both shared. That too lives on in your children and husband. Your life has been a legacy of love.

From Doug and Harri…

Making the world a better place:

Harriet and I had the privilege of getting to know and visit with Judy and Bob when they came to Seattle to visit Deanna and Craig. Judy was always interested in what was new in our lives and she was the epitome of warm, friendly, and caring. You always felt valued when having a conversation with her. The world today needs many more people who create and exude similar feelings and characteristics.  As always, the best memorail the rest of us can generate and carry forward into the future, is to honor Judy's essence by living a life where we all help make the world a warmer, more caring, and humane place to live. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Bob, the Fryhle and Doris families.

Judy is in my heart forever.  She had the most wonderful smile.  Her eyes sparkled with the excitement of life.  Her voice was gentle and expressed warmth and kindness. Judy was compassionate and genuinely interested in others.  She was also very smart, courageous and resolute.  She was a unique and wonderful lady of many talents.  Judy will be long remembered by our family for her musical abilities, her energy, her passion, her stellar Spanish and her sweet smiling face. We were lucky to have her in our family.   Love to Bob, Deanna and family

I knew Judy all my life as we grew up about a block from each other.  When we saw each other we would often reminisce  about the old neighborhood

and the people that we knew.  Judy was always friendly and asked about my family as well.  I will miss our conversations.

Dear Bob and Family,

Clint and I are so very sorry over your (and our) loss of dear Judy.  We feel fortunate we became friends when you were living in Port Townsend years ago and that our friendship continued after you went back to New Jersey.  Judy became to me like a second sister because of our bridge passion and that we thought alike on so many things.  I loved that we continued our friendship over the phone and our talks just picked up like we had talked yesterday - so easy, friendly, and comforting.  Judy loved life and her family so much and she was really a joy to be with.  We miss her and she will always remain in my heart with love and affection.  I am just so grateful that our paths in life crossed.  Our love and prayers to you all.
