David A. Wormell

Service Information

A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date, when social gatherings are permitted.

David Allen Wormell (Hippie Dave), passed away peacefully at his home in Bellingham, on Wednesday April 8th, 2020, after a courageous battle with a long term illness.

David is survived by brothers Bob Wormell, John Mikkelson and cousin Mary. He is also survived by a son & daughter. David was preceded in death by his parents John (Jack) Wormell and mother Marguerite, his loving grandparents Nana & Pop.

The family is extremely grateful to Cindy Rawls and her husband who were so instrumental in the care for Dave during his illness. They were exceptional friends to Dave. They cared, nurtured, and were there for him even in the dark days. Cindy was with Dave when he journeyed to the Lord, and words can’t express our appreciation for her love and concern for Dave.

David will be missed by many who knew him, but family & friends are grateful for the opportunity to have shared our lives with him. He will be missed, and if there is an empty chair at the local homeless shelter, a sign should be placed that says “RESERVED FOR HIPPIE DAVE”

God bless you brother, and I look forward to that day when we will be reunited together with the Lord. Until that day, RIP my brother.

David’s ashes will be placed with his mother’s grave in Troy, Mt at a later date by the family.

David was my friend, we met 15 years ago, and I will miss him so much. It was my privilege to be with him, and care for him in his last days and final hours.
David was such a character, he insisted on being called "Hippie Dave", and on doing things the "Hippie way". The last few years presented extreme health issues for him. Despite his pain, he still loved to go for a ride in the truck, with the music cranked up loud. He loved to talk about God, and he was confident in Gods perfect plans for him.
My sincere sympathies to all who loved Hippie Dave. Rest In Peace my friend.

I knew David Wormell as well. I served time with him in the late 70's at the Monroe Reformatory in Washington state. We all know the truth about his past, which I will not discuss here. It is impolite to speak ill of the dead. Let me say only this:  I learned from my experience. 'Worm' did not. Perhaps in his next life he will do better.
