Alice Mogabgab

Service Information

Memorial service will be Saturday, July 27th, 2PM at Hillcrest Chapel, 1400 Larrabee Ave., Bellingham, WA.

Alice Mark Mogabgab, age 84, left this life in the early morning hours of July 23, 2013.

She was born May 24, 1929, the youngest of seven children to Ottis and Mary Mark in Long Pine, Nebraska. She stayed in Nebraska long enough to receive her education and then headed west to Idaho.

Alice met the love of her life, Louie Mogabgab, while on vacation in San Francisco. They married in June of 1951 and went on to have four children, Louis Jr., Lisa, Lori and Lani. Tragedy struck in 1967 when Louie died suddenly of acute leukemia. Alice rose to the occasion and raised her four children alone. From a young age, our mother loved to have a good time. She weathered her responsibility in jobs over the years and taught us to be honest hard workers. She was an artist and always looked at nature’s beauty ready to try to capture it on canvas. She loved to joke, laugh, sing (in choir), dance, garden and sew. She particularly loved her grandchildren.

For the past 25 years, Alice has resided in Bellingham. With the progression of Alzheimers, seven years ago she became a member of the Orchard Park Assisted Living Family. She loved all the activities as well as her days at Adult Day Health. We deeply appreciate the care our mother received during this time as well as her dying day at Whatcom Hospice House.

Alice is survived by her four children, Louie (Joyce) Mogabgab, Lisa (Gene) Bennett, Lori (Doug) Whittlesey, and Lani (Kurt) Swanson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian, Sarah, Jenny, Morgen, Joshua, Leah, Barry, Cory, Breanne, Grace, Gabriel, Jess, and Jordan as well as 15.5 great grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louie, her parents and five siblings.

Memories

From Helen Baker

Greetings to all Alice's family! She's been a dear friend of mine for many years. She shared our desire to sew, quilt, walk, attend Garden Street Methodist Church together and be active in our United Methodist Women's organization. She also sang with me for years at Sehome Park Care Center where I played the piano and sang for years every Thursday. I just visited her on her birthday where we shared hot chocolate and cookies. She was such a beautiful Christian woman. Sincerely with love, Helen Baker

Lani, and Families. I am honored to have known and spent wonderful times with your lovely mother over the years. We toured the tulips, had tea parties, swam in Lake Whatcom and picked berries. She always had wise and amusing words and beautiful quilts for my children to welcome them into the world. I am sure God has a beautiful quilt to welcome her into Heaven.I am sad, and at the same time amused, when I remember her impression she left here on Earth.May we all remember to see the joy and humor in everyday things like she did. God Bless you all.

Dear Lani, Lori, Lisa, and Louie,

I'm so very sorry to hear that your mom passed away. Although it's been a long time, what I remember about Alice were lots of laughs, her love for Boomer(?), and the delicious cabbage rolls she introduced me to. I feel fortunate that I was able to spend time with her. I'm sure all of you have great memories that you can look back on for comfort.

Take care...

From Lani Swanson

Jim,
Thank you so much for your memories of Alice. It is always helpful to look back to some younger years since the last 10 were a little more difficult, but she was vibrant in many ways to the last breath. I pray things are going well for you!

Blessings, Lani

Dear Louie, Lisa, Lori, Lani and families
Our parents were such great friends and I think it all started with a PTA meeting in the late 1950's. Alice and Aileen maintained their friendship through all of life's adventures, children, changing jobs and cities, etc. What wonderful memories they have left us with...and I imagine they are having a great reunion...Love and Blessings, Linda and Randy
