Judy Meyer

Judy Jeanette Henry Wilson Meyer (February 22, 1945- January 11, 2023)

Judy was a native Oregonian with deep family roots in the state. She was a child of the trees, lakes, and rivers. She called herself a “vagabond” and she enjoyed camping, taking road trips, and traveling. She never minded being uncomfortable on her many road trips within the United States and Canada. Judy also had many great memories of traveling and living overseas, and she would often talk about those days as if they were recent memories.

Judy loved art, and she might have been an artist or an art educator in another life. She had a special talent and interest in oil painting, and she produced many great paintings that her friends and family cherish.

Judy lived and worked in various places on the West Coast, but she ultimately spent the winters of her retirement in northwestern Washington. The summer months were enjoyed at her favorite place in the world— her House on the Lake in Oregon.

Judy’s career began as a reading and special education teacher, but she also worked as a school psychologist, and she retired as a special education administrator. Judy was always passionate about her work, but she was also very happy to have the time to spend time with her children and grandchildren who lived on both coasts of the United States. She loved being a grandma (and great grandma!), and she was thrilled to be renamed Grandma “Juju”. Judy recently took great joy in arranging lunch dates, and cultivating new types of relationships with her grandchildren, as they became adults.

Outside of her family and friends, Judy loved dogs, coffee, card games, and chocolate --especially chocolate! Rumor has it that she once went a year without it before proclaiming it the worst year of her life.

One of Judy’s gifts was in maintaining her far-away relationships. Luckily, technology and social media have made this even more possible. In recent years, Judy stayed in touch with her sister and closest friends through daily phone calls, video chats, and games of Words with Friends. These experiences made her very happy.

The spectrum of friends and family survived by Judy is far-reaching and diverse. The family plans to gather at the House on the Lake this summer to celebrate Judy’s life. She will be greatly missed.

So sad to read of Judy's passing. I remember her as soft spoken and always kind. If memory serves me I believe I saw her last in 2014 for a multiple class reunion.

Judy and I had many travel adventures and I miss our conversations while watching just sitting and watching life. She was the kind of friend who you could hang out with and do nothing. And that was okay because we understood each other. I miss our phone conversations now very much. I miss you dear friend!!

Judy was my Program Specialist and was instrumental in hiring to work as a special educator for the LosGatos Union School District. She was a wonderful friend and mentor. A wealth of knowledge, experience, and of course, stories!

I considered Judy a best friend. For the last several years we talked every night for about an hour. It was wonderful to connect during this time of COVID isolation. We met over 40 years ago when our daughters were in 4th grade and met at Camp Sealth. We just connected like we'd known each other for years. We even both had Samoyed dogs that became best friends! I was fortunate to have enjoyed her House On The lake with her several times.I knew Judy had a lot of health problems but I expected her to just keep going. I am missing our evening chats so much!

I admired Judy’s intelligence and independence. My dad loved his sugar bear. We all loved her. She will be missed.
