Lynne Zold

Service Information

A memorial for Lynne will be on August 8th, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. 2866 West Shore Drive in front of the condos. Please RSVP if you plan to attend to 360-650-9435.

Lynne Ellis Willems Zold was born on September 20,1945 in Memphis, TN. She was an Air Force brat with curly hair who was alphabetically always last in line. Her desire was to eventually marry someone who was not in the military, with straight hair and a last name starting with "A". She still wonders how she fell in love over 50 years ago with a man whose last name started with "Z", had curly hair and who became an officer in the U.S. Army.

Lynne graduated from Pomona College, CA with a B.A. in Psychology. She received an M.A. from the University of Texas in counseling and became a superb evaluator of infants and children, as well as an effective therapist focusing on women's issues. She was the Clinical Director for a youth counseling center and carried a thriving private practice. Among her many successful endeavors, she was proud to have established and directed the first five certified daycare/preschool centers for the children of military families in Germany.

Lynne always chose her own way, deciding what was important and/or humorous rather than following the establishment's expectations. Although she opposed war, she was one of the first to organize “The Envelope Please”, a campaign to send letters, gifts and jokes to service members at high-risk posts overseas. Rather than attending teas she spearheaded and edited a cookbook, to fund empowerment training sessions for military spouses; and instead of attending formal functions, she established an annual costumed Halloween gathering where it was impossible to be stuffy.

Lynne combined her compassionate spirit with tireless advocacy. She reached out to her community and beyond through Child Reach overseas, Water Africa, international micro loans, Christmas gifts to children in need in local schools, contributions to a home for children and mothers who had been abused, and by financing adequate housing for undocumented, hardworking families. Most of her philanthropy, however, was done anonymously as she witnessed the needs of children and families. An example of Lynne’s never-give-up attitude was her all out effort to stop the deportation of a local high school student. Undaunted when that didn’t work, she turned to helping her successfully obtain an American High School diploma through a correspondence program.

She was creative in numerous ways, from gourmet cooking to decorating, to starting the "Stoop Group" where neighbors gathered for food, conversation and laughter. Lynne had an amazing command of the English language as a speaker, a writer and keen Scrabble player. She also created and sold devilishly difficult cryptic crossword puzzles to various publications.

Known for seeing the whimsy, humor and absurdity in most situations, Lynne offered perspective as a true, honest, loyal, and caring friend.

Lynne moved 45 times in her life. Then, in 1990, she fell in love with Lummi Island and wished to never move again. You have your wish, Lynne. We will all miss you terribly.

Lynne was predeceased by her parents, Raleigh and Jean Willems, and her younger brother, Lee Willems. She is survived by her husband/partner Tony, son Jonathan (Lori) and step grandchildren Brandon, Kimberly, Ellie and Michael; nephew Steven, niece Elizabeth and cousins Nancy, David and Donnie.

Donations may be sent to the Friends of the Island Library, "FOIL" for the Fountain Fund or one of Lynne’s favorite charities noted above. A memorial for Lynne will be on August 8th, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. 2866 West Shore Drive in front of the condos. Please RSVP if you plan to attend to 360-650-9435.

Thank you to all the friends both on and off Lummi Island for the food, flowers, cards, jokes, assistance with chores, emotional support, caring and love. It was greatly appreciated.

Here is a poem that was meaningful to Lynne.

And so they lived happily ever after

Except for the pain and suffering in the middle

And the dying at the end.

But what was important was not that they died

But that they lived.

Another poem Lynne liked is below:

Oh! I have slipped the surly bounds of earth,

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds,--and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of--Wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless hall of air...

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue

I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark or even eagle flew--

And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I will always remember Lynne's infectious laugh and her love of joy.  I have known her since I was about 7yrs old and she will always hold a dear and special place in my heart!  Lynne, you made a positive mark on so many, and I'm lucky to have been one of them.  You will be missed...

From Tom Kimball of…

Lynne always wore a smile in her sparkling, impish eyes, and lit up the room with intelligence and grace. We enjoyed many Stoop Group sessions at the Condos, several tables of delicious dinners during Mystery Theatre nights at the Silver Reef, scrumptious Thanksgiving Dinners sharing recipes and stories, and creating cryptic crossword puzzles for the readers  of Pomona College's alumni magazine. Truly, a woman unique and beautiful has left her mark on Earth, and passed the torch of kindness and caring to ourselves, sad though we be at our loss of her sensitive presence.

Dear Tony,

I'm so sorry!! I have such fond memories of Lynne from high school, college, and several years beyond: a brilliant, fun-loving, zany woman. The things she accomplished in her life, as described in the obituary, are exceptional (but perhaps not unexpected, given who she was)—and humbling. We send our best wishes to you and your family; if you find your way to the East again, please visit!

The one picture I have found from our times spent together shows Lynne with a gleam in her eye and a smile that shows she is thinking up something devilish - the way I remember her.  She enjoyed life and made everything better for those around her.  She and her spirit will be missed.  My middle daughter, Stephanie Lynne, bears her name and will always remind me of her.  With love -  Mary Ann

Dear Tony and Family:

I'm so sorry to hear of Lynne's passing. I knew her in high school and remember her well as a wonderfully kind, witty and interesting person. I spoke with her a few years ago and found her still to be that person. I wish I had known her better. Love to all, Anne Wilson Sheppard, San Gabriel High School, Class of 1963.

Lynne & I attended Limestone High School in Limestone, ME in the early '60's.  Had lost contact with her but "found" each other a few years ago and am so glad that we had the opportunity to reconnect.  We had many great on-line chats.  I will miss her great messages.

Dear Tony,  The Remembrance was beautifully written.  A real tribute to a special lady!  We think fondly of our years in Beachcrest and remember the Halloween parties. We can still see the evening we spent with you and Lynne at Ft. Mason on your 25th wedding anniversary. She will be greatly missed.  Our love to you and Jonathon.  Your friends, Terri & Mike

From Diane LaVeille

Lynne was one of those people who truly lived life on her terms. By her example, she taught me to use my own voice. She helped support me in all kinds of life journeys from weight loss ($1 a pound!), a couple of years at the local community college where I learned I wasn't "remedial" at all, donating money for my grandson when he was staying at Children's Hospital for seven months and the list goes on! Did you know the woman ate mole? Well, not exactly...it was mole' (Mexican chocolate sauce sort of), but I hadn't heard of it before. We shared time doing pedicures (she made me laugh so hard I'd snort and cry!!) and plotting schemes to get Tony to throw stuff out. Please don't fire me, Tony! It was all in good fun, really!! She gave me fabulous remodeling advice when we remodeled our kitchen and I was always in awe of her ability to take older houses and give them a classy look on a budget. I only played Scrabble with her once! I knew I had met my match in her very, very quickly!! There is so much I will miss about Lynne not being a part of my life. I wish I had known her when she was younger so we could have shared more time. She was and always will be "My Countess". I only pray she knew how very much I loved her. (I told her so often!) Tony and Jonathan: My heart is so extremely sad for your loss, but what a blessing you have both had to have Lynne as your wife/mother. To be loved by her was the real deal and I know she loved you both so very much.

From Robin Addingto…

i enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Lynne during our years at Limestone High School!  We picked potatoes together; we laughed, danced and ate our way through slumber parties too numerous to count!  We studied together, ice skated and skied (after a fashion!)  she was a dear classmate whose memory will be with me forever!

From proof of concept

A reputable online school for music will proudly
publish its accreditations to give assurances for prospective students.
This gives users a multitude of great sound effects, samples, and loops that they can use on their audio tracks.

Recording, editing and burning audio files are
extremely easy and fast tasks, which is probably why Music Editor Free
is hailed as one of the best freeware digital audio workstation applications on the Windows platform.
