ARTHUR “KEN” KENDALL WEBER

Service Information

At Ken’s request there will be no services and a family gathering will be held at a later date.

Ken passed away on June 20, 2026 at Whatcom Hospice House. Ken was born August 1, l933 to Arthur and Katherine Weber in Santa Monica, California where he lived his first  21 years. He graduated from Santa Monica High, and then attended Santa Monica City College and UCLA where he played in the marching band.  Enlistment in the Air Force took him to Germany where he met his first wife, Annamarie Dahlmann, and they returned  to the States with their son, Hans, and Annamarie’s two children, Heide and Robert.  Two more children, Monica and Mark, were born into the family, then living in Southern California.

While attending college Ken worked for the Postal Service and returned to that position after military service, and completed his bachelor’s degree at Upper Iowa University.  In l963 he was promoted to the position of U. S. Postal Inspector domiciled in Butte, Montana.  The family also lived in Bellevue, WA and Pacifica, California as their father was transferred.

Ken married his second wife, Phyllis, in Denver, Colorado in May 1975 and they lived briefly in Denver, in Walnut Creek, CA and Mercer Island, WA before coming to Whatcom County in l983 when he retired and they built a home at Birch Bay.  They eventually moved to Bellingham to be closer to town and closer to the airport for their frequent travels.

After formal retirement,  Ken worked for 10 years for the local Visitor Bureau at a State of Washington information booth at the Custer Rest Area.  After that he and Phyllis did volunteer work for many years at the Bellingham Public Library running book sales for the Friends of the Library.

Ken and Phyllis loved to travel. Over the years they attended many Road Scholar programs in the States, took many Rick Steve’s tours throughout Europe, and traveled on their own around the country and to other parts of the world.  A favorite activity was traveling to different state fairs around the US.

Ken enjoyed having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit and play with his train sets and toy cars and the kids have great memories of their time with him.  He was also friends with all the neighborhood dogs and kept a fancy blown glass bowl from Murano, Italy at the ready filled with dog biscuits to pass out.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years,  Phyllis, his children Robert, Hans (Diane), Mark, and Monica (Tom) Nolan, step-children Heide (David) Anderson, Jan Witter, Nancy Witter (Chris Lieb), 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his step-son, Keith Witter.

The family would like to thank Whatcom Hospice for their care and support over the past 8 months.

Memories

From Riz

Thanks for being a wonderful grandpa. I’ll never forget your train set, you helping me with my school work anytime it required something to be built, the Disneyland articles you’d mail to me, and the stories of your travels. You inspired me to be curious about the world and to always observe the things around me. Love you.

From April Sellers

Ken was one of the most interesting people I have ever met. He inspired me to travel in a way I had not thought possible before, and to work to live a better, more full life. I have thoroughly enjoyed eating raclette and discussing numerous topics over the dinner table with him and Phyllis. I have fond memories of talking about various places around the states and him pulling out a road atlas and pinpointing exactly the location we were talking about. He was a man who seemed to know a little bit about everything. He was always so helpful to Melissa and me. I am forever grateful for how welcoming he was to me (as the rest of the family has been) and will greatly, greatly miss his company.
