James D. Brisky
There will be a private service honoring Jim later this summer.
On June 28, 2026, James “Jim” D. Brisky went home to be with his Lord and Savior with
his wife, Gayle, and children, Sheri and Jamie, at his side at his home in Acme,
Washington. Jim was born in Cashmere, Washington, to Curt and Mary Brisky on
August 10, 1939.
In 1957, Jim met Gayle on the school bus when he was 17 and she was 13 years old.
His first question to her was “Does your dad drive a Ford or a Chevy?” Jim was a Ford
man.
In May of 1959, Jim and Gayle married and started their family in November 1960, first
with the birth of Danny, then Sheri, then Jamie. At the time of his passing, Jim and
Gayle had 8 grandchildren (7 granddaughters and 1 grandson), and 9 great grandchildren.
Jim had a full and prosperous career and worked as an electrician, a mechanic for Ford
and a diesel mechanic in Alaska. He was a boat builder in Anacortes. He was a
handyman extraordinaire who never really retired as his skill set was versatile and his
energy level and desire to work, teach and learn traits that he possessed up until the
last few months of his life on Earth.
Jim was a fun-loving husband, father and friend. He was a catcher of raccoons,
snakes, turtles and fish. He feared nothing and loved scuba diving, hunting, hiking,
gold-panning, buying used boats and making them new again, working on cars and
anything mechanical. He was inventive and never backed down from a challenge. He
was generous with his time and resources and always ready to help his family, friends
and anybody else who needed him.
And above all, Jim loved his Lord and the Lord’s Church. He was ready to share his
faith and study the bible at every opportunity. He and Gayle were instrumental in
starting up the Church of Christ in Anacortes, Washington, in the early years of their
marriage and they worshipped there the last two years of Jim’s life.
Jim was a true, loyal and trusted friend to many people. Those who “experienced” Jim
and his big and adventurous personality will miss him and hold memories of him in their
hearts forever.
Jim is survived by his treasured wife and true partner in life, Gayle, his daughter, Sheri
(Jim) of Lacey, Washington and son Jamie (Kathy) of Sedro-Woolley, his grandchildren
and great grandchildren, and 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He is preceded in death by his
parents, his sister, Janice, and his son, Danny.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to their friends and to Hospice of
Whatcom County for their devotion to Jim and his family over the past few months,
enabling him to stay in his and Gayle’s home of 25 years until his passing.
Memories
From Don Oelze
We knew Jim too short of time but we loved him and his devotion to the Lord. He brought us some important lessons from the Scriptures.
Don Oelze, a minister of the Fidalgo Island Church of Christ.
