Katie Bryant

Service Information

Please gather with us at the Leopold (Hotel Leo, 2nd floor) in Bellingham on Saturday, May 23, from 3-5 pm to honor her, tell stories, and share the caring that she brought to life.

Our mother, Katie Bryant (born Kathleen Mae Lobb) died at her home at Brookdale Senior Living in
Bellingham WA on May 19, 2026. Born December 5, 1928, to Gladys and Harry Lobb, she grew up in
Ferndale, graduated from Ferndale High, and went off to college at Washington State College where she
met her first husband, Marshall, with whom she had three daughters. She subsequently married Bill
Costello, Bob Seidelhuber and Sam Bryant Jr, all deceased. She is survived by her daughters, Anna
Nicolai (Alain Charfoulaud) of France, Shelley Macy (Gary Brandt) of Bellingham, Suzanne Macy Marcy
(Scott Marcy, deceased) of Eagle River AK; her grandchildren Forrest, Brett (Nate), and Preston; great
grandchildren Lilli, Tommy, Jamie, and young Preston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Katie was the best darned waitress and bartender Seattle ever saw through the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s
and into the 80’s. While the cops might get called to bars down the street for disorderly conduct, she
kept the peace at hers. She kept a plastic baseball bat under the counter, and if things started to get out
of hand, she would pull it out, whack it on the bar with a loud bang, and tell them to “knock it off,” in no
uncertain terms. And they would! People loved and respected her. And one regular customer told her
that she always made him feel good about himself. What a gift she had for connecting with others.
No matter what she did, she did it with verve, style, and tremendous energy all her life. While she might
be concerned about what others thought of her at times, she always had a mind of her own and would
do what she believed was right.
While living at the Leopold for the last 10 years, she made friends of numerous merchants on her
walking route to the Bellingham Senior Center for lunch, and of course, made many friends at the
Center. For these past two and a half months at Brookdale, she started building friendships immediately.
She just had a way of being with people that made everyone feel more alive.
Katie loved her daughters and grandchildren to the ends of the earth. We will miss her immensely. We
are so proud of how she advocated for herself and her family, up to the very end.

Katie requested that any donations in her name go to Eden Hospice or End of Life Washington in lieu of
flowers. BUT when you need a florist in Bellingham for something else, try Katie’s favorite shop, A Lot of
Flowers on Cornwall Avenue.
