Leonard Bernard Kolodychuk, died peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at his Bellingham home with loved ones by his side. Len was born on October 24, 1959 and lived in British Columbia and Alberta during his childhood and teenage years.  As a youth, he had a love for and excelled in many sports including hockey, football, and downhill skiing. Pursuing a career in medicine, he attended the University of Alberta, completed a Family Medicine residency in Akron, Ohio, before training to be an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Saskatchewan.
Len was a practicing orthopedic surgeon for over 35 years and had an active interest in trying to improve the quality of life and function of others. He touched the lives of many in the community through his work. Len embodied the idea of being a life-long learner, consistently trying to stay up to date with the latest research to be able to provide his patients the best care.
Len was an avid golfer and sports fan, sharing many memories with family and friends alike with golf trips and outings to Vancouver Canucks games. Len loved the outdoors – camping, fishing, and pheasant hunting; travel; and later in life took a  growing interest in cooking and food. He was the king of the barbecue. He attended many rock concerts throughout his life, numbering them at over 100.
Len is survived by his loving wife, Grace; his four children, Nicholas (Kirstin), David (Claire), Peter, and Stephen, parents (Anne and Bernie), brothers Brent (Sharon) and Barry (Collette), brothers and sisters-in-law from Grace, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to your local Arthritis Foundation or Food Bank, or to the Lighthouse Mission Ministries PO Box 548, Bellingham WA 98227.

I was heartbroken to hear about Lenny’s passing. I was lucky to know him through hockey and golf, and even luckier to call him a friend. Lenny had an incredible sense of humor and a calm, kind way about him that could steady anyone—even me. I’ll never forget the time during a game when I was losing my mind on the bench, and Lenny somehow managed to calm down the “Silverback Gorilla.” That was just who he was—steady, good-hearted, and always ready with a laugh. I’ll miss him deeply, but I’ll always carry those memories with me.
I am so sorry that I'll miss his celebration of life ceremony. Please know that I would be there if I could.

Dear Grace - It was very sad to hear Len lost the battle - but boy he sure fought hard. I hear you guys at least got to do a final trip together. He looked so good last time I saw him and we had lunch together - still a full head of hair ( he showed me pictures of him in his ‘cold cap’ during treatment. I hope all the great memories you and the boys have will somehow make the sadness and grief a bit easier. I have nothing but fond memories working with him. He will be missed.

From Bob and Kelly

Kelly and I were saddened to hear of Len’s passing. So soon after our visit with you and Len. It was so nice to see both of you at the time and we feel blessed with our visit.
Len was always smiling even then but we could tell he was struggling. We truly believe he is in a better place now but has left us much too soon.
May your family know that our thoughts are with you and your family at this sorrowful time and we are saying prayers for all.
