Lois Ardelle Matson Jones, aged 76, passed away on March 15th , 2026, in Bellingham,
Washington, following a 3-plus years courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by her
devoted husband and children. She was born on March 2nd, 1950, the second of three
daughters to Arthur William Matson and Veda Ardelle Hanson Matson in Twin Falls,
Idaho.
Lois spent her formative years in Pocatello, Idaho, where she enjoyed 4H and had a
love of animals, caring for a lamb named Twinkie, horses Polly and Roxie, and her
beloved cocker spaniels Maggie and Goldie.
Following the tragic loss of her mother at a young age, the family moved to American
Falls, Idaho, where she attended high school. She was described as popular and a
good friend. After high school, she moved back to Pocatello, where she attended beauty
school and earned her cosmetology license, working as a beautician for several years
before starting her family. She met her eternal companion, Terry Jones, and they married on February 12th , 1971,
in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Their first child, Terry Jr., came in the spring of 1972, followed by Russell in 1976,
Shanna in 1978, Douglas in 1980, Elizabeth in 1983, and Bonnie in 1987.
As a lifelong member of the church, Lois spent her life in the service of her Savior,
serving in multiple callings and responsibilities throughout her life. Her most cherished
callings were with the Cub Scout organization as a Den Leader and a couple of years
as the district Day Camp Coordinator. She also served in multiple Primary Presidencies
and with the Relief society and Young Women of the Church.
Lois and Terry instilled a strong work ethic in their children through many family chores,
especially in growing large vegetable gardens and putting up fruit and vegetables to
feed the entire family throughout each winter. The family loved the fresh corn, potatoes,
carrots, onions, peas, beans, and even a prolific raspberry patch, along with several fruit
trees. They also spent time as a family in the woods each summer, cutting firewood for
winter heat.
Lois also craved and developed many creative talents, learning oil painting,
scrapbooking, and later developed a passion for coloring. Her last years were spent
either at her table coloring or watching YouTube videos to learn new coloring and
shading techniques, always improving her skills.
Lois is survived by her beloved husband Terry Sr., sisters Suzanne (Pat Hallinan) and
Nina Hall, in-laws Raedene and Dave Gale, in-laws Joe and Bonnie Jones, and brother-
in- law Brian Norton, her children Terry Jr. (Nicholle), their children Franny, Mario and

Shanna (Jonathan York), their children Jackson, Ryan, Jordan, and Parker, Douglas Jones, Elizabeth (Scott Cunningham), their children Brooklin, Lauren, Adam, Mason and Lucas, and Bonnie (Tyler Haas), and their children Lucy, Jacob and Kasen. There is also a great-grandchild arriving in June (Mackenzie and Josh Posten).
