Roger Shank
Roger, cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandpa and friend passed away after a 4-year battle with metastatic kidney cancer.
Remaining to grieve and recall all our wonderful memories are his wife, Linda Barton, and his kids, whom he loved beyond measure: Heidi Shank and Tony Buckman, Heather and Greg Robinson, Chris Shank and Kristine Quint, and granddaughter Christina Robinson.
Roger loved being big brother to Steve and Gayle Shank, Pete and Cricket Shank, and Andrea and Stephen Seliskar.
A life well-lived by a truly wonderful soul.
Thank you to PeaceHealth Cancer Center and Whatcom Hospice for care and kindness along the journey.
“And did you get what you
wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.”
― Raymond Carver, A New Path to the Waterfall
Memories
From Jim Warner
Roger brought kayaking in to my life.
In 1987 he opened Morro Bay Outfitters, an outdoors and boating shop... kayaks and canoes. Roger saw my enthusiasm and he helped me to learn to kayak. More importantly he was an incredible person: genuine, friendly, upbeat, a mentor, my friend. I have been blessed to know him. May the memory of Roger Shank always be for a blessing... Amen.
From Shawn Northouse
I met Roger through his wife Linda back in the late 90s when Linda and I both started working for the Bellingham Herald. Roger was instantly likeable. His good-natured, humble demeanor made him a joy to be around. I'll miss our beach picnics, paddle board adventures (and misadventures . . .), and driving Linda nuts with geology banter! -A wonderful soul whose fond memory will always bring a smile.
