Susan Louise Lenssen Schaletzke
A graveside service and celebration of life will be planned later for her immediate family.
Susan Louise Lenssen Schaletzke went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 30, 2024 in
Lynden, WA. She was born as an identical twin in Aberdeen, WA on September 10, 1946 to Hans Martin
and Louise Lurline (Wayman) Jensen. They moved to Pullman, WA where Martin was attending WSU
and then later moved to Vancouver, Port Orchard, and then eventually to Bellingham, WA where she was
introduced to Byron Lenssen by her dad through 4-H. She married Byron on May 30, 1969. She
attended a business school in Bellingham before becoming a homemaker, and then worked at Lynden
Escrow, Martin’s Feed, Central Tax, and later Farmers Equipment. She and Byron celebrated 37 years of
marriage before he passed away. During this time, they had four sons together. Several years after Byron passed away, she married William Schaletzke in 2013. They enjoyed camping and traveling to see family.
Sue had a heart of gold and a very giving soul. She was a member of 3rd Christian Reformed Church for
many years where she taught Gems and Sunday School. She also enjoyed helping with dairy 4-H with
Byron. She enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls and decorating cakes. Most of all, she loved the Lord, her
family, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband William Schaletzke; her four sons David (Heather), Dwayne (Angela),
Dean (Lyndsey), and Dan (Shelle); 12 grandchildren Austin (Corrina) Lenssen, Travis Lenssen, Sadie
Lenssen, Holly (Darien) Liberty, Allison Lenssen, Avery Lenssen, Grant Lenssen, Kenzie Lenssen, Lana
Lenssen, Presley Lenssen, Aurora Lenssen, and Nora Lenssen; one great grandchild Evelyn Liberty; sisters
Sandy Abendroth, Barb (Steve) Crawford, and Lindi (Evan) Horner.
She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Lurline Jensen, husband Byron Lenssen, and her
brother-in-law Kent Abendroth.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lynden Christian School or Whatcom Hospice.
Memories
From Amy Abendroth
Love and hugs to David, Dwayne, Dean, Dan, and your families. I'm so sorry for the pain of loss. I ask that God's grace and peace will be evident to you all as you navigate through this time. Aunt Susie (and her warmth, humor, hospitality, and charm) will be greatly missed.
From Leslie Honcoop
Our sympathy to David, Duane, Dean, Dan and your families. Your mom was devoted to your dad and whatever he did which we saw in the way she participated in his 4H responsibilities for so many years. They were a great couple. And took care of us Dairyland 4H kids each in their own way, making it a great experience for us. We are so sorry for your loss.
