Weldon Harvey Richardson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 26, 1937, in Plentywood, Montana, Weldon moved with his family to Bremerton, Washington, where he raised and cultivated a love for learning, music, and adventure.

Weldon graduated from Olympic College and Western Washington College of Education, leading to a fulfilling career in education. He began teaching at Burlington Edison Elementary and later joined Blaine High School, where he inspired countless students as a music teacher. After retiring from teaching, Weldon continued serving to Blaine community as a member of the Blaine School Board.

Later in life, Weldon transitioned to federal service, working for the U.S. Immigration and U.S. Customs Service. Upon retirement, his adventurous spirit led him overseas to work for the government, primarily in Albania. Weldon also dedicated his time to mentoring young people through education and employment opportunities. He served on the scholarship committee in Plentywood, Montana, helping countless students pursue their dreams.

Weldon had many passions that enriched his life. He loved boating on his TollyCraft, hunting ducks, golfing, playing softball, fishing for trout and salmon, eating freshly cracked oysters, painting with his art friends and traveling the world with his beloved wife Kathy. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting agates and polishing them to reveal their beauty. Sharing these polished treasures with others became a sweet and thoughtful gift that reflected his generous spirit. His passion for music was deep-rooted, with the highlight being his years playing the trumpet alongside his lifelong friend Dale Steele in the Rainy Day Jazz Band. He was also a skilled builder, personally designing and contracting two family homes. Known for his firm but fair demeanor, Weldon found joy in teaching and mentoring as a father, coach, band leader, and supervisor. Weldon’s legacy is carried on by his family, who were his greatest pride and joy.

Weldon is preceded in death by his father, Weldon (Bud) Richardson; his mother, Marjorie Rose Tooke Richardson; and his sister, Margo Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Rae Richardson; his children, Mike Richardson (daughter-in-law, Terri), Jeff Richardson (daughter-in-law, Carrie), Scott Richardson, and Lynne Richardson Jones; his grandchildren, Ben, Alex, Hayden, Katie, Cody, Clint, Tori, Molly, and Brian; and his great-grandchildren, Hunter, Gunnen, Carson, Jayce, Jasper, Cruz, and Ollie. He is also survived by his brother- and sisters-in-law, Tom and Janet Miller, Tom Robertson, and Marsha Johnson-Robertson, as well as many extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Shuksan Healthcare Center and Eden Health Hospice for their compassionate care in Weldon’s final days.

Weldon’s life was rich with love, purpose, adventure, and music. He touched the lives of many and left behind a legacy of friendship, mentorship, and inspiration. His memory will forever be a source of comfort for all who had the privilege of knowing him. Weldon’s presence in our lives was a blessing, and his memory will forever be etched in our
hearts.
