Ann M. Uliana

Service Information

Will be provided by the family at a later date.

Ann passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital, Bellingham, Washington, with her son Wayne and daughter-in-law Brenda by her side. She had hoped to regain her previous strength and vigor but never fully recovered from complications brought on by pneumonia.

Ann was born in Stonington, Connecticut and until WW ll lived in Westerly Rhode Island and Pawcatuck, Connecticut. She moved to Bellingham in August 2008 following her husband Anthony’s death. She longed to be closer to her loving son and his blended family who reside a short distance away in British Columbia, Canada.

Near the end of World War ll, Ann met, married, and settled down in Denver, Colorado with Anthony Uliana . Born and raised in Monson, Massachusetts, Tony loved and appreciated her “New England” tastes and values. They enjoyed 62 years together!

Ann greatly valued her role as a mother. She took great pride and interest in her only son Wayne. They truly loved one another and enjoyed many hours together, often discussing their favorite topics: health, spirituality and philosophy. In the 1970’s Ann learned to meditate following the Transcendental Meditation (TM) method. Wayne continues to meditate to this day.

She was a talented and creative artist. Her beautiful paintings are admired and sought after by most who see her creations. An avid reader of health and well-being books and magazines, she attributed her longevity to healthy eating habits and vitamin supplements. She had studied to be a hospital dietitian and worked for many years assisting a diet doctor. Since developing Macular Degeneration (vision loss), she was forced to give up many of her favorite pastimes and activities. She always had the radio tuned to a classic rock (50’s and 60’s) station, which may have contributed to her “up and at ‘em” approach to daily life, or which reflected it. She was never one to sit around and rarely watched more than the evening News broadcasts on TV. Her favorite show was 60 Minutes on Sunday nights.

Ann valued and always wished for a larger family. She got her wish later in life… besides her son Wayne, she will be missed by her grandchildren Clayton and Ryan Uliana, daughter-in law Brenda, Brenda’s daughter Alison (and her partner Owen), and son Aaron (and his wife Lori), and great grandchildren Trevor and Cole. She also leaves several nieces and nephews: Ann Marie Pescatello, John O. Pescatello, Bonnie Wade, Janet Muni, Kathryn Dunston, Douglas Bonner, Michael Pescatello, Mary Pescatello Lewis, Marjorie Pescatello Miller, and Paul Pescatello, and by several great nieces and nephews.

Ann’s visits to Canada and family trips to Bellingham always brought her happiness and a greater feeling of belonging. Visits and correspondence by her nieces Janet, Ann Marie and Bonnie were joyfully received.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, Antonina and Nicolas Muni, her brothers Samuel Muni, John and Michael Pescatello, her sisters Mary Pescatello, Virginia Bonner, Josephine Ellis, and Catherine Brown Campbell, nephew Edward Pescatello, and niece Anita Pescatello Beddard.

Ann touched the lives of many people with her smile and willingness to listen with empathy to those needing to be heard. She maintained her trademark interest in learning and sharing her knowledge to the end. Most notably, she and Wayne started Macular Degeneration Support Groups in her Denver and Bellingham Assisted Living Homes. Instead of flowers, she would like to suggest giving to The Macular Disease Society (http://www.maculardisease.org/) or your local dog rescue society - Mom loved dogs!

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to be scheduled in the New Year. Return to this obituary site in the New Year or contact Wayne at 1-778-321-2009 for further information.

From Simon Truelove

Good bye Ann. You lived along and wonderful life. I will always remember your warmth, your kindness and your sincerity. I hope you are proud of your boys, all three of them. We will all miss you and will drink toasts to you this Christmas.
"May choirs of angels sing thee to thy rest."
