The family invites you to join them for a time of remembrance at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Squalicum Boathouse, 2600 Harbor Loop in Zuanich Point Park.

Darwin “Eric” Radder died at home January 10, 2015.

The youngest of nine children, he was born May 18, 1960, to Elmer and Theresa Radder. His early years were spent on the family's dairy farm at Northwest and Smith Roads (the “County Farm”). Later, when the neighborhood on Orleans St. became home, he hung out with the Bonkoski, Soderquist, and Sundean kids. Darwin “Eric” had a sharp wit which kept many laughing (or wondering). He had a generous spirit and made friends wherever he roamed. Being adventurous, he once sold most of his belongings and ran off to South America. Months later, he returned to Bellingham where he worked at Current Industries (providing job training for the handicapped) and, later, as a care-giver in various nursing facilities.

His special knack for working with the disabled and caring for the elderly made him well liked by co-workers and patients. An excellent cook who could turn a can of tuna into a gourmet meal, he enjoyed sharing his tasty creations with others. He took pride in his home and loved to share his hospitality with anyone who needed a place to visit or a safe refuge. His flair for decorating and love of antiques made his small apartment very welcoming. Toward the end of his life’s journey, he was blessed with great friends and neighbors. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and volunteered at several local organizations.

Darwin “Eric” was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Diana Kay Radder and Kathy Sherfey. He is survived by brothers Darrell (wife Carole), Don (wife Mary), Dale (wife Kim), and Dean; sisters Karen Bellingar (husband Dave) and Karolyn Radder; his brother-in-law Chuck Sherfey, and many nieces and nephews.

The family invites you to join them for a time of remembrance at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Squalicum Boathouse, 2600 Harbor Loop in Zuanich Point Park.

Memories

From Christine Brown

Please accept my sincere condolences. The last time I saw Eric was at the Food Bank, just a few weeks ago. He stepped in to help me as he had done several times before. He was a kind, gentle, funny person and I feel lucky to have crossed paths with him. He will be missed.

From Karolyn / Sam Radder

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts....Eric enjoyed spending time at the food bank as he always got his most enjoyment out of helping others.  Please thank all of the "Food Bank Team" for the happiness they allowed him to share.  I only wish he would have gotten involved with your wonderful organization sooner.  Bless you all for the self'less services you provide for our community!
