David John Steege

David and his wife were among the founders of Whatcom Hills Waldorf School.

He was the piano technician at Western Washinton Univeristy for 30 plus years. While keeping the pianos tuned, he attended their many concerts. He also had a great love for The Jazz Center in Bellingham.

During retirement he enjoyed rebuilding pianos, hiking the Mount Baker area, having coffee and sharing interests with close friends.

David was loved by family, friends, and neighbors and will be missed by all.

Memories

From Rick Kaiser

I just heard about David's death on February 9th. My wife Ann and I are both greatly saddened as is all of Bellingham at the loss of such a wonderful man.  He tuned my piano and maintained it better than anyone else in the area. He epitomized the caring, talented, and highly skilled craftsman that he was. He gave me the confidence to open a twangy piano and tune it properly, although never my own.  That I left only in his experienced hands.  My beautiful piano will miss him. Our grieving family will miss him. The Bellingham community will miss him. Wherever he is, may it be peaceful, joyous, and filled with wonderful piano music. Maybe ragtime....
