Greg Beyer

Service Information

Arrangements for a memorial have not yet been made but please contact the family if you would like to be informed when they are.

Greg Beyer, age 60, passed away on August 25th at the Whatcom Hospice House due to renal failure. He was born on June 11, 1952 in San Pedro, CA to Mike and Rita Beyer. Greg is succeeded by his loving wife Mirela Giaconi, daughter's Lauren and Erica Beyer, son Mikey Beyer, son in law Nigel Groom and his grandchildren Bodie and Kyah Groom who were the greatest joys of his life.

A man of many trades, Greg was a sheet metal worker for 20 years in Los Angeles, CA before moving his family up to Bellingham, WA where he helped his wife open up their restaurant the Sandwich Odyssey in 1994. It was in the Northwest where he discovered the passion of his life, crab fishing with his brother in law Tony Giaconi who passed away before his time in 1996. Greg's wishes were for his cremated remains to be scattered in the Puget Sound to be with Tony's memory forever.

As a young man, Greg trained in many boxing gyms in Los Angeles were he developed a life long admiration for the sport, as well as a fighter's spirit. He would go on to become a boxing journalist in his free time for several online publications where he made many friends and was highly regarded for his work. He enjoyed golf, playing with his grandchildren and his wife Mirela's cooking.

The family has decided to scatter Greg's remains on October 14th at the Pier in Blaine, WA. If you would like to join them please contact Mirela or Mikey at 738-6919. It is the family's request that donations in Greg's memory be made to the Whatcom Hospice House or the Bellingham Kidney Center.

Memories

From Margaret Sleasman

Mirella, Lauren, Erica, Mikey and the rest of his family & friends;
I am so sorry for your loss, his passing is far too soon. I am praying that you will have peace knowing that he is no longer in pain. He will be missed by many of his friends and has left an empty spot in our hearts. Most of all, you, his family will miss him. Although your sorrow is great now, may you be comforted in knowing that your Heavenly father will console and watch over you. Please remember the good times and the wonderful memories you shared during your lives together. He is happy now with Tony walking the streets of gold.

Hello to all that will miss Greg and to his loving family.

We send our best wishes to you all at this time. Fortunately, we have fond memories of Greg also and we will never forget his sweet smile.

It is such a shame that our families became so separated over the passing of so many years, but..." such is the way of the world." We lost touch with Mike Beyer and his family many years ago, and it was indeed fortunate that he dropped by to visit us and renew acquaintances. We loved sharing memories with him at that time and hearing about both Janet and Greg. We were sorry that our attempts at getting together with Greg did not work out, so we lost complete track of him and his family. However, we are so very sorry to hear of Greg's passing and offer our sincere condolences to Mirella, Lauren, Erica, and Mikey. May your memories of many good times together and the future help you through this sorrowful time. We know that memories such as these remain in our minds forever until we can again share them with our loved ones. May peace be with you all as I share a fond memory that I have of Greg and his father.

One memory of Greg began when we were much younger and shared Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings together with our related families. It was during one of these gathering I realized just how close Greg and Mike were as father and son. Janet and little Greg were always dressed nicely for these occasions, and I remember playing outside and Greg got a smudge or two on his face and clothes.

Well, when the gathering broke up, and Mike called Greg, and he appeared a little messed up from playing, Mike jokingly said, "Hey! Whose little boy is this?" . Greg just came apart thinking that his father did not recognize who he was. The tears flowed until Mike hugged him, as well as reassuring him that he knew who he was and that he loved him very much. There was little doubt that father and son were very close from an early age, and it impressed me then about how close a father and son could be and how important that relationship could be..

If you have ever seen Greg's picture as a Little League Ball player, you would know what a really cute and handsome lad he was. He will be remembered.
We send our best wishes to all that have known and loved him. May he rest in peace.
