Harry Subelbia

Service Information

A memorial with a reception to follow will be held Saturday June 30th, 2:00pm at Hopewell Grange, 441 Hopewell Rd. Everson, WA. Harry was not a "dress up" person, so please come casual and comfortable in your brightest Hawaiian colors to celebrate Harry's life.

Harry Ramires Subelbia, "Pops", age 89, of Bremerton, WA died in Lynden, WA on the morning of Wednesday June 13th at his home in Lynden Manor.

He was born on September 3, 1922 in Illocos Norte, Phillipines to Santiago and Evarista Subeldia (Ramires) and moved to Hawaii when he was six. His original name was spelled with a "d" but growing up he did not know the difference between a "b" and a "d" and nobody corrected him so later in life he legally changed his name to "Subelbia"

He left his senior year of high school to join the army and served in WWll. He started his federal career in 1942 at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, then moved to Seattle in 1951 to continue his career at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, in Bremerton, Wa. He was a welder and became a welder foreman in 1979.

After a previous marriage, he remarried Jacqueline Barrios in 1982. He retired in 1988, and enjoyed his vegetable garden, as did all the neighbors because he loved to share. His yard was kept up every day and his pride and joy were his roses, neighborhood fix it projects, side welding jobs, knife making, and watching the Mariners. He moved to Lynden, WA in 2009.

He is survived by his daughter Mandy L. Brymer of Tacoma, Carrie A. Subelbia of Lynden and two other daughters from a previous marriage. Also his brother, Andres R. Subeldia, Sister, Dolores Subeldia Bolosan, sister and brother-in-law Jerry and Pat Brittain and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline Subelbia in 2004 and his siblings, Philip Ramones Acoba, Mary Subeldia Jaramillo, Canota Subeldia Rivera, and B. R. Subeldia.

The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to all the staff in Lynden Manor for loving him so much and taking exceptional care of him. You became family to him and his daughters. "Beep beep". A special thank you to the Nooksack Valley Church of Christ, Mandy and Carrie's work families, and family and friends in Bremerton for all the support through these last few years and days of his life.

As Harry would end every conversation......"Take it easy."

Memories

From Bruce and Rose…

Harry became part of our life just 3 short years ago and we feel so lucky to have met him. Harry always had a smile on his face, he liked to solve puzzles probably because he was a fix it kind of guy and he loved his bright colored shirts, he was a joy! We will miss him and all our love and prayers go out to Carrie and her family, we love you!

From Devon

Harry was a very talented guy and was always so easy going. I never could figure out those puzzles he made, even after 20 years! I will always remember his well kept yard, Hawaiian hats and cheerful nature. A couple of years ago he asked me to marry him, should have said yes. ;-) Love to Carrie and her family.

From Rhonda Ivie

I had the honor of meeting Harry & his family in Bremerton many, many years ago. My Safeway was not far from their home so they were regular customers. Being a food clerk has countless blessings, one being the ability to watch families grow. And two, it's definitely interesting to see what customers buy. Mandy & Carrie grew up, And Harry bought two bags if Doritos...every day! Jackie passed away & Harry kept chugging along. When the big craze started with the "state quarters" being minted, Harry would ask me if i had any new ones. He asked me every day. Then he got to the point when he only needed Hawaii & Michigan. I had the opportunity to move up north a couple of years ago, same city as Carrie & Harry & celebrated Harry's birthday with friends & family each year I've been here. I'd like to think he remembered me from the good old days...and I'd like to think he got Hawaii & Michigan ;) love you guys! "take it easy."

Although, I hadn't known Harry for very long; he made a big impression on me and my family. His smile lite up a room and his sweet , funny and bubbly personality made him so much fun to be around. We felt so honored to be able to spend Harry's birthday with him and meet him all in the same evening. We pray that God will comfort Carrie and her family in this time of great loss and sorrow. May Harry live on in your hearts and minds.

From Jerry & Trish …

Harry was our brother-in-law and we have so many, many memories of him, gatherings at our home or theirs, holidays together, etc. Jerry still has the knife that Harry made him, he helped me gather the "quarters" I was saving for our Grandsons always asking if I had the crrent one out, during the summer he always supplied us with beans and rhubarb from his garden, he loved going out the the gatherings at relatives at the Key Peninsula especially for the 4th of July, he loved Filipino food and I always made sure I made pancit or sortunghorn, or adobo when we got together. His daughters [Mandy & Carrie] were more like our grandchildren [until we had some of our own] and endearingly have always called us "auntie" and "uncle" and we will always be here for them. Having recently had some medical problems we may not be able to attend your memorial services Harry but you , Mandy, and Carrie will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow. God Bless
