Jack Sutterman

Service Information

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Jack was born October 25, 1921 in Friday Harbor, Washington on San Juan Island. He was the son of Emil and Ione (Smith) Sutterman. Jack served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1946 installing telephone line from Ilwaco, WA to San Diego, CA. While in the service he met his wife of 64 years Mary V. (Leary) and they married in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1945. Jack and Mary moved to Bellingham, Washington in 1950 where Jack started his own business.

He is survived by his son Stephen P. Sutterman and granddaughter Debbie L., his son James M. Sutterman, wife Lisa R. and granddaughter Jessica M. and many nieces and nephews.

Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, bringing flowers to Mary from his garden, caring for his granddaughters while they were young and spending time at his river property in Concrete, Washington. Jack greatly appreciated his long time neighbors and friends Emil and Judy. Their friendship and help made it possible for Jack to live his final days in the home where so many of his memories were made.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph’s Hospital, especially the ER and ICU staff, for their care and support during this difficult time. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
