Lorraine Y. Finet, age 78 passed away peacefully at home August 29, 2012 in Everson surrounded by family. She was born January 1, 1934 in Bellingham, WA to James and Exzilda Ableman. She graduated in 1951 from Meridian High School. Lorraine married Wayne Finet on February 2, 1953 in Fairbanks, Alaska. They moved back to Bellingham to be near family and eventually settled on a small farm in Everson where they raised their family. She loved her family unconditionally and truly enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Lorraine enjoyed her work as a bookkeeper at Hinote’s Furniture for 18 years. She built lifelong friendships with the Hinote’s Furniture family.
Lorraine and Wayne loved to spend time on Eliza Island with family and friends. Lorraine liked to pick up rocks, bring them home and then polish them. There was always a beautiful bowl of polished rocks in the kitchen somewhere. They also spent many a hour fishing and camping in British Columbia.
She loved her garden, raised beautiful flowers, canned vegetables, made jam and applesauce. Lorraine will forever be remembered by those who sat at her table as one of the best cooks around. She was also an avid reader, our family will always remember her sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and a book.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her son Brian Finet and brother Jim Ableman. She is survived by Wayne Finet of the family home, her children Jan Pete’ and Dave Finet (Vicki), her grandchildren Jamie, Brooke, Christopher, Michelle, Seth, Kelli, and great grandchildren DJ, Caleb, PhiLong, Aleenah, and Karsten. She is also survived by her sisters Janet Bland and Mary Nevins, brother Robert Ableman and sister-in-law Shirley Ableman along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Finet
I am one of your old student from Nooksack Valley High School.
I am sorry to hear of your loss of your wife.

From Rev. Richard Coghill
Mr. Finet,
Sending my thought and prayers to you in this time of grief and loss. I was one of your students at NVHS, graduating in 1964. My mother, Alice Coghill was in the Library during the years you were there.
Know that we will ask our Heavenly Father to walk with you in these next steps of your "new" journey. May you find hope and assurance in the fact that you are not alone - but that God, and we are there to carry your burden with you. In His Grip, RIch Coghill
From Dave Finet
I could not imagine having a Mom more supportive than my Mom was of me, or Jan or Brian. She laughed with us, cried with us, worried with us, dreamed with us and loved with us. Whether I was under-achieving as I went through school or making not so good decisions she was always there for me. She would be disappointed when my grades came but she and Dad were unwavering in letting me know I had the potential to do whatever I wanted if I just applied myself.
Her love was unconditional, sure Mom would let me know when I was doing something dumb or being selfish but it was always clear she loved me. Mom could appear tough at times but those of us close to her new how sensitive she was, her feelings could get hurt quite easily. She loved all of her family and was so proud of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids as well as the extended family, whenever I would go see her which wasn't often enough she would give me the family update. I will miss that.
When I was going through the toughest times of my life my Mom and Dad were there for me, every step of the way, guiding, supportive and loving.
I hope Mom that you Brian and Uncle Jim are together, 3 of the finest people I have known. I miss you Mom but I am so glad you are no longer in pain. I wish you could have been here longer Mom but you lived a good life, lots of fun, adventures, hard work, laughing and loving times. Rest now, you deserve it.
Love Dave

Aunt Lorraine holds a very special place in my heart. Her love for the past and heritage were inspirational for me. Her laughter and special sense of humor was always there and my Dad always adored her as his big sister. May God bless and keep you forever,
Becky
