Myrtle (Myrile) May Takemura of Bellingham, WA, passed away August 16th, 2012 at her home. She was 89. Myrile was born April 23, 1923 in Glasgow, MT, to Kurando and Midori Komaki. She graduated from high school in Havre, MT in 1941 and then attended Great Falls Nursing School receiving her RN. Myrile married Tom Takemura on October 7, 1951, and they moved to Fife, WA. Later they lived in the Riverside area of Tacoma, WA, where she and Tom raised their four children, Michael, Jay, Rob, and Dori.

Myrile began her career as Registered Nurse at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. She later worked at Cushman Indian Hospital, Tacoma, and then at Good Samaritan Hospital, Puyallup, completing her career at Madigan Hospital on the Fort Lewis Military Base where she retired in 1989.

Although she enjoyed nursing and caring for her patients over the years, Myrile most loved watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and other activities. She was a talented and prolific knitter, and made many beautiful afghans for her family and friends over the years. She also was an excellent baker and was famous for her wonderful pies and cookies. Myrile was a generous, thoughtful, kind person whom people warmed to almost instantly. Visiting with her friends was a favorite pastime.

Myrile moved to Bellingham after the death of her husband, Tom, and lived with son, Rob, and his family. There she enjoyed being involved in the everyday activities of her family.

She is survived by her sons, Jay Takemura and daughter-in-law, Kris, of Dayton, WA; son, Rob Takemura and daughter-in-law, Jill, of Bellingham; daughter, Dori Vail and son-in-law, Tim, of Bellingham; grandchildren, Makaela, Katelin, Michael, Nathan, Jasmine, Nolan, Riley, and Joshua; great granddaughter, Abby. Memories

From Kathee Juris

Myrile will always be high on the list of people I've felt very fortunate to know. I always felt especially close to her because we were both nurses...actually I think she made everyone feel that way! I'll miss her. My thoughts are with you.

From Thomas E. Bage…

"Take", as I learned to know her was an RN at Madigan Army Medical Center when I was an intern in 1970. She was always professional, remained calm under difficult circumstances, and, for me, she was an excellent teacher.
I am honored to have known her.
I wish her family well.
Sincerely, Thomas Bageant, MD

From Paul Chen

Myrile was one of the very first persons I met at Hillcrest Chapel after moving to WA. Though I will always remember her "gentle and quiet spirit" reflected in her smile and warm greeting at church, I could tell from our occasional conversations that Myrile's sweet-tempered demeanor belied a certain feistiness that would peek through in her humor. God bless her and the family she raised.

Thoughts about Myrile

I will miss Myrile’s stories, her smile, and how she made me feel welcome and accepted. She was good company and fun to be with!

Myrile was such a unique, delightful blend of spunkiness, humility, tenacity, gentleness, humor, and industriousness.

Blessings to all of you Takemuras and Vails as you learn to live without her physical presence. Thanks for sharing her with us.
