Robert "Bobby" Dean Ames
Two separate memorial services will be held to celebrate Bobby’s life. The first one will be on Saturday, March 18th at 2 p.m. PDT at Zion Lutheran Church in Ferndale, WA (live streamed on https://www.youtube.com). The second memorial service will be on Saturday, June 24th at 2 p.m. CDT at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE (live streamed on http://www.holycrossbeatrice.com/).
Robert “Bobby” Dean Ames, age 52 of Birch Bay, WA went to be with his Lord on Friday, February 24th at Whatcom Hospice due to heart complications.
Bobby was born June 23, 1970 at Mennonite hospital in Beatrice, NE where he grew up, graduated from Beatrice High School and went on to DePaul University in Chicago, IL earning a BS in Computer Science (with high honor) and an MS in Business Information Technology.
In 1994 Bobby met his soulmate, Matthew Allen Woolsey, and began their life together in Chicago (18 years), relocated to Beatrice, NE in 2013 until the passing of his mom, then moved to Birch Bay, WA in 2021. Together they traveled the world over from Mexico to India and many spots in between.
Anyone who really knew Bobby will attest to his sensitive and generous nature, a penchant for looking stylish and dancing a good jig, love for animals (especially Sammy, Cleo, Yahtzee, and Domino), combined with quick wit and sassiness. Never to be the one standing in front of a crowd delivering a big speech, Bobby was the guy who treasured one-on-one relationships based on respect, authenticity, and genuine care for others. His gentle touch on all that he did to make this world a better place will be missed.
Bobby is survived by his husband, Matthew, Gay Lea Woolsey (mother-in-law), Richard Woolsey (father-in-law), brother in-laws Scott, Keith, Robert, and Shawn along with Aunt Gail Ames, cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents Denny Ames and Kathy Volle, his brother Tom, Uncle Mike Ames, grandparents Kenny and Loretta Ames, and grandparents Dean and Nancy Wrightsman predeceased him.
Because of Bobby’s love for animals, the family requests that donations be made to ASPCA to fight cruelty to animals.

Bob will continue to hold a special place in our hearts. His sweet smile and gentle ways brought joy to all of us at Zion. He will be greatly missed.
From Nancy Boat
Bobby, I will always treasure our friendship, the time you made me laugh so hard I had tears coming down my face. The long phone conversations, not as long as those with Dawn and Robbie though. I will think of you every time I eat a taco, watch a cute dance video, look at the friendship dove you gave me. Keep dancing in heaven my dear. Miss you!
From Brian and Raynell
We are so sorry for the loss. What a special person Bob was; he was so genuine and loving-an example for others to live by. Bob goes on in our hearts; I think of his quick wit on Facebook and how he always had kind words to say. Especially love how he made me laugh with his posts until I was bent over and could hardly breathe because of the laugher. We will think of him when we go to Taco John's. Brian is still uncertain how we couldn't find time, when visiting Bob & Matthew in Beatrice, to go to Taco John's just down the street from their house (but we were sidetracked with our visit, storm watching, fire flies, Rib Fest and good food elsewhere).

You will be missed. I was thinking we would have another cruise together.

Matthew - we are holding you in our hearts. There are no good words in the face of such heartbreak - just know that we send our love as you grieve. I only got to meet Bobby over zoom but his smile lit up the room and I know what a special human he must have been to have captured your heart. May the love of family, friends & community surround you and all those who loved Bobby as you adjust to the world without him in it.

The love Bobby had for good people is an example of how one should be. Dane will forever remember building not just a castle, but the whole city! As he lives on through all of us being kind to those around us, may God wrap his arms around you and help to soften this loss.
From Matthew
