Steven A. Nicolaas
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Steve Allen Nicolaas "Jumbo" age 59, of Ferndale, lost his battle with cancer on April 22, 2020, and passed away peacefully at home.
Steve was born in Whatcom County to Elmer Nicolaas and Betty Barnes, on January 14, 1961. He attended school at Ferndale. He was married to Gina (DeVries) Nicolaas. He worked as truck driver for Cowden Gravel. Before Cowden, he worked for Arnold Finkbonner and Sons. Steve loved his work and always made work more enjoyable and fun for his coworkers and the many construction crews he worked with. He was a member of Hope in Christ Church where he loved to attend every Sunday morning. He also loved going to auctions, visiting with friends while they were camping, going to sprint car races with his son Gary, playing pool and raising pigs.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Gina Nicolaas; two sons, Mat Nicolaas (Marlena) and Gary Nicolaas; two stepdaughters, Darcy DeBruin and Wendy Blok (Jake); three brothers, Ray Nicolaas (Peg), Rick Nicolaas and Ron Nicolaas and two sisters, Ruth Brown (Don) and Shelly Nicolaas as well as four grandsons and two granddaughters. Steve was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Nicolaas and Betty Barnes and his niece, Makayla Nicolaas.
